About Me — Christopher Johnston
Hello readers 😀!
My name is Christopher Johnston, but please call me Chris. I have degrees in both marketing and journalism and have worked in SEO for the last decade.
When I went to college in my early 20’s I wanted to be an engineer and majored in Mechanical Engineering for a time at the University of New Orleans. I was even part of a team that competed in the 1997 SAE Mini Baja® East in Montreal. I loved the camaraderie that came along with being part of a team committed to a goal. I also liked hanging out in the automotive shop and drinking beer with my classmates and team members.
As you can probably guess by my interest in engineering, I’m a naturally curious person who spends far too much time wondering how things work. As a kid this manifested itself with me having lots of things in my bedroom in various states of deconstruction: transistor radios, clocks, a 120v to 12v transformer I got from someone’s parents (I still have this today).
WARNING CONTROVERSY AHEAD
Being from the South, I also love guns, hunting, and the outdoors. I earned my Louisiana Hunter Safety certification at 13-years old, at a time when it wasn’t required to purchase a license. I also have a Louisiana Concealed Carry Handgun Permit and I strongly believe in the 2nd amendment. FULL STOP. If this offends you, I would urge you to not follow me or subscribe to any of my channels.
Some of my other interests are electronics, programming (I attended a coding bootcamp in 2019), and studying how people learn.
Here are a few of my favorite books:
- Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning by Peter C. Brown (Author), Henry L. Roediger III (Author), Mark A. McDaniel (Author)
- A Mind for Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science (Even If You Flunked Algebra) by Barbara Oakley PhD (Author)
- Learn Like a Pro by Barbara Oakley Phd (Author)
I’ll earn a small commission if you click the links above and purchase these books on Amazon!
I encourage you to follow me, send me messages here on Medium, comment on any of my content, and I don’t mind if you hold opinions about things that may be different from mine. I know that that may be a shocking thought in 2025.
If I become famous or gain some notoriety at some future date and you are from the media and come across this while researching me understand something. I reserve the right to change my opinion over time as I learn new things and I’m exposed to different people and viewpoints. I’m in my fifth decade on this journey we call life and I can tell that the current me is nothing like the twenty or even thirty year old me, so people change.
Like many authors put on their book covers, I currently live with my wife and three awesome children in Louisiana.
